Wow what a view! Is what you will say when you stay at the very pretty Kalamar House, overlooking the beautiful Kalamar Bay, in the exclusive town of Kalkan on Turkey’s Turquoise Coast. This classic architect designed four storey villa has four ensuite bathrooms, and can comfortably accommodate up to eight guests, perfect for a family or friend’s holiday. Built in local white plaster, brown brick trim, and natural wood finish, with delicate white lace metal balconies, which offer simply superb Mediterranean Sea views. The villa has its own off road private garage, and comes with complimentary Wi-Fi and air conditioning throughout. The interiors are simply decorated with a neutral palette of cool whites, soft beiges, with sunshine yellow and sea blue highlights. Park your car in the road entry garage, and take the steps to the ground floor to the entrance of the villa.
The ground floor is an open plan living space, light and airy with floor to ceiling sea view windows that give access to the terrace. The seating area has a large comfy creamy beige L-shaped sofa and matching pouffe, a set of useful occasional tables, two chairs and a coffee table, facing a flat screen television with satellite receiver, and a smart Adams style enclosed fireplace for the cooler evenings. Adjacent to the seating area is a well-equipped kitchen with an American family sized fridge freezer, cooker and hob, dishwasher and washing machine, a table and chairs, and an eight-piece place settings. A convenient guest cloakroom is accessible from the living area. Take the stairs to the first floor where you will find two double bedrooms. Simply furnished in crisp white linens and drapes, the largest room has a double bed, wardrobes, flat screen tv, floor to ceiling curved windows with panoramic sea views that open onto a furnished balcony, and an ensuite black and white tiled marble bathroom. The second room is a twin, with two single beds, which can be pushed together to make a double, a bedside table and wardrobes, and a balcony, where you can sip your morning coffee and watch the sun rise over the Mediterranean Sea. The second floor has a further two double ensuite bedrooms, both with stunning sea view balconies. The top terrace has a jacuzzi bath, relaxing sun loungers, and a bar with built-in fridge, what more could you ask for than to sip some bubbles in some bubbles as the sun sets over the horizon.
The terrace can be accessed via the ground floor living space, where you will find a stunning ladder entry L-shaped swimming pool, which unusually follows the curves of the house. The pool is surrounded by sea blue cushioned sun loungers with shady parasols, and a huge inviting sun bed with its own pull-down canopy, just imagine relaxing in the sunshine reading this year’s latest best seller. A mustard yellow six-seater rattan dining table and chairs and barbeque complete the picture, and is the ideal place to enjoy some alfresco entertaining under the twinkling stars.
Villa Kalamar House is located in beautiful Kalamar Bay, to the west of the quaint harbour town of Kalkan, situated on the Turquoise Coast, the jewel of the Mediterranean Sea. The town of Kalkan is 125 kilometres from Dalaman Airport, a scenic one and a half hour journey through the Turkish countryside and Taurus mountains. Originally a Greek enclave called Kalamaki, Ottoman and Hellenic influences can be found in the winding streets of the old town, full of traditional white houses and home to a plethora of restaurants, cafes and bars, and souvenir shops full of goodies you’ll want to take home. From the villa it is a short walk to local shops and restaurants, and a five minute drive into Kalkan where you can find supermarkets and banks, and a local Thursday market, that can cater for all the provisions you will need for a happy holiday.
Within walking distance of the villa, is the charming Kalamar and Kulube Beach Clubs, with restaurants, and full size swimming pool. Take a trip into town, and at the harbour get aboard the complimentary water taxi to one of the many exclusive beach clubs with bathing platforms, sea views, swimming pools, and waiter service, there’s no need to leave your sun lounger all day. No stay in Kalkan is complete without a boat trip from the harbour, whether it’s a shared one with family and friends or you charter your own gulet, a day out at sea with your favourite captain and crew, is one to treasure. All aboard for a day of swimming and snorkelling in beautiful bays, enjoy a meal of local homecooked meze, take afternoon tea, and then sail back to harbour cocktail in hand to watch the sunset.
For the beach bunnies, Kalkan has its own pebble beach with easy access into the sea. Travel further afield to the stunning Kaputas Beach set in a natural gorge, only two hundred steps down and back again, but well worth it. Take a trip to Patara, where you will find twenty kilometres of unspoilt golden sands and a protected area for the hatching turtles, an archaeological site over two thousand years old, and the most stunning sunsets best seen from the ever-changing dunes. Kalkan is home to a number of beach clubs along the length of its coastline, have some fun in the sun at family-friendly resorts offering water sports and swimming pools, or relax and unwind at exclusive luxury destinations and be waited on hand and foot whilst enjoying alfresco spa treatments.
For those with itchy feet the Lycian Way walking trail cuts through Kalkan. Follow in the footsteps of thousands of years of history, as you trek the trail taking you through major archaeological sites, local villages, dramatic coastlines, and the areas’ flora and fauna. Take a short journey to the town of Kinik, where you can step back in time to the Lycian city of Xanthos. Follow the D400 to Fethiye, and discover the historical sites of Patara, Letoon, Tlos, and Pinara, where you can see the ancient ruins, amphitheatres and temples with Lycian, Greek, Roman, and Byzantine influences. The harbour town of Fethiye is also full of ancient sites worth seeing, as well as a foodie-heaven fish market, and home to some seriously good designer labels and fabulous jewellery shopping. Whilst the nearer town of Kas is just twenty-five kilometres in the other direction, and worth the journey alone along one of the world’s most stunning and dramatic coastlines. Walk through the harbour to the cobbled streets full of Ottoman architecture and overhanging balconies festooned with pastel coloured bougainvillaea, barter for unique handmade and antique goods in its many shops, and make memories dining in one of the traditional restaurants serving authentic Turkish cuisine with mesmerising sea views. And if you’re feeling intercontinental hop on the twenty-minute ferry from Kas to the Greek island of Meis, where you can explore the Blue Cave and dine by the water’s edge.
