The Great House is a boutique hotel nestled within twenty-six acres of palm trees and tropical gardens on Antigua’s historic Mercers Creek estate, with a private swimming pool and spectacular views of the Caribbean Sea. The 350-year-old Georgian residence, originally a sugar plantation house, has been elegantly preserved to provide guests with a glimpse into Antigua’s fascinating history, as well as a luxury Caribbean experience in a blissful location. Home to its own turquoise bay, a historic sugar mill and the gently flowing creek from which the name of the estate is derived, here guests will enjoy a feast for all the senses whilst relaxing in the wonderful Caribbean sunshine.
Elegantly furnished to reflect the traditional charm of the Great House and the natural beauty of its surrounding area, the Duke Suite is a bright and spacious offering for up to two guests. Complete with a sumptuous king-size bed featuring a four poster frame, the suite’s airy interior benefits from plenty of natural light thanks to high ceilings and wide windows overlooking the gardens. Here, guests will find the perfect place to unwind after an afternoon spent exploring the wonders of the island. Fully air conditioned throughout, the suite also features a fitted ceiling fan, ensuring that your nights are as restful as your days are relaxing. The large en-suite bathroom includes a shower. Guests also have access to the hotel’s excellent facilities, including a gorgeous swimming pool with a sun-soaked terrace featuring comfortable loungers, as well as a private white sand beach.

For an exciting day out, head south to the majestic Nelson’s Dockyard National Park. One of five national parks in Antigua, this cultural treasure is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The eighteenth-century British naval dockyard is an area of great historical significance on the island, as well as a popular venue for maritime events and activities. For those who wish to experience the magic for themselves, there are plenty of sailing excursions and water-based activities available.
While taking in the sights at Nelson’s Dockyard, don’t forget to hike to Shirley Heights, a restored military lookout known for its bewitching views and community feel. With a popular street party happening every Sunday evening, visitors are welcome to enjoy the music of live Caribbean steel drum bands, taste some of the local food and rum punch and take in the breathtaking sights as the sun begins to go down on the beautiful island of Antigua.
Located only a fifteen-minute drive away from the Great House, Devil’s Bridge is another Antiguan national park that is sure to make an impression. The bridge itself is a natural arch composed of limestone rock, formed over the course of many thousands of years.
