Ashwell Manor holds a fabulous location in a completely private and peaceful spot nestled amongst beautiful Somerset countryside. While guests will feel as though they are in total tranquillity, the closest town of Ilminster, with its selection of helpful amenities, is just five minutes away.
The grade II listed manor house has been recently refurbished to an exceptionally high standard and today seamlessly combines the character and charm of its original features with new contemporary furnishings and interiors.
On the ground floor is the main entertaining space which comprises of a large drawing room, a cosy library and a games room complete with snooker, table tennis and table football, the perfect space to entertain the younger guests in the evening. The kitchen comes fully equipped with all the necessary amenities a budding chef could possibly need as well as breakfast dining facilities for four, the dining room next door can comfortably seat up to twenty guests. The ten elegantly appointed double bedrooms are set out over the upper two levels, eight of which have their very own en-suite bathrooms while the remaining two share the use of a family bathroom. Six of the ten bedrooms can be set up as either a super-king double or a twin room making Ashwell Manor ideal for couples as well as friends or children.
The manor is set within three beautifully maintained acres of gardens, much of which is large lawns, perfect for a game of football or croquet. The children will love splashing around in the private heated pool, while, the astro-turf tennis court is a real bonus for those who enjoy some friendly competition. The terrace comes complete with dining facilities and barbecue making it the ideal place to round off a action-packed day with a spot of al fresco dining
The house is set in a quiet position nestled amongst farmland and woods.
There are a selection of excellent pubs in the vicinity, some within walking distance – like the Dinnington Docks, which is about a 45 minute walk – others a little further, but worth cycling or driving to, such as the Lord Poulett Arms.
Barrington House, a National Trust house with gardens open to the public, is nearby, as is Dillington House. The Dennis Chinaworks in Shepton Beauchamp are also very close and worth a visit, for the tea rooms as much as anything else.
There are several local cider producers whose orchards and presses are worth seeing, Perry’s Cider in Dowlish Wake being one, and Julian Temperley’s cider and cider brandy distillery over at Burrow Hill another.
A little further away the beach at Lyme Regis and walks along the Jurassic coastline are 40mins or so to the South, and the Hauser and Wirth gallery near Bruton is 40 mins or so to the East.
